‎1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is back in Nigeria after leading the country’s delegation to the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the United Arab Emirates, where Nigeria secured fresh economic and climate-focused commitments. His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed his expected return in a statement on Saturday.

2. An estimated 3 million followers of Tijaniyya Islamic Sect from within and outside the country, on Saturday, converged in Katsina State for the celebration of Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass’ Maulud, 2026. The event which took place at Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina, was organised by the “Majma’u Ahbab Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass”.

3. The Super Eagles of Nigeria have claimed the bronze medal of AFCON ’25 following a 4-2 win over Egypt on penalties. Ademola Lookman scored the winning kick but Nwabali provided the platform with two saves in the shootout.

4. Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters in Kano metropolis were thrown into mourning after unknown assailants stormed the home of Haruna Bashir, killing his wife and six children. Residents described the attack as one of the most shocking incidents in the area. Confirming the incident, Kano State Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the issue.

5. The African Democratic Congress has declared that removing President Bola Tinubu from office is essential to rescuing Nigeria from what it described as an unprecedented governance crisis. The party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an interview, arguing that the country cannot be saved while the current administration remains in power.

6. Family and friends of late gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, have said she would be buried on Wednesday January 21.  The gospel artiste died on January 12 after a prolonged battle with a serious leg ailment, a condition that had drawn widespread concern from fans and members of the gospel music community.

7. Some yet to be identified gunmen have reportedly killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate principal at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin Area of Ibadan in Oyo State. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed this in a statement, on Saturday, in Ibadan, the state capital.

8. A fire outbreak has destroyed more than 100 thatched houses at the Water Board IDP Camp in Monguno, Borno State, according to the State Police Command. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the incident to NAN on Saturday in Maiduguri.

9. Nasarawa State Police Command says it has recorded significant security breakthroughs, arresting 12 suspected criminals and rescuing seven victims who were held hostage across the state between January 1, 2026, and date. The command also recovered several firearms and other exhibits across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

10. Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has pledged not to support, directly or indirectly, any action capable of undermining peace and safety in the state. The governor made the pledge while speaking as Special Guest at the finals of the 2026 Port Harcourt Polo Tournament held in the state capital on Saturday.
