1. Amid its fresh moves to stabilise the nation’s volatile exchange rate, the Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered Deposit Money Banks to sell their excess dollar stock latest February 1, 2024. The CBN, which made the disclosure in a new circular released on Wednesday, also warned lenders against hoarding excess foreign currencies for profit.

2. The Household of David Church in Surulere Street, Adeniyi Jones, in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State, has lost its multi-million naira church auditorium to a fire incident. It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 10:00 am on Wednesday.

3. Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday signed into law Executive Order 001, 2024 on the handling and storage of harmful substances in the state. In a section of the order, the governor gave 72 hours ultimatum to anyone in the state in possession of any kind of explosives to declare them.

4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is investigating the controversial Nigeria Air deal sealed by former minister, Hadi Sirika. This was disclosed by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo. He stated this while speaking on Channels TV Politics Today on Wednesday.

5. The Commonwealth has appointed former President Goodluck Jonathan as the head of its Election Observation Mission to Pakistan’s general elections. The election is billed to hold on February 8, 2024. This was disclosed by Jonathan’s aide, Ikechukwu Eze, in a statement, on Wednesday.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, revealed it has uncovered the financial activities of a religious sect in the country, laundering money for terrorists. Chairman of the EFCC, Mr Ola Olukoyede, disclosed this during a Public Engagement on Youth, Religion, and the Fight Against Corruption, as well as the Launch of Inter-Faith Manual and Fraud Risk Assessment Project for ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government, at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja.

7. The First Bank of Nigeria (FBN) Holdings has appointed billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola as the new chairman of its board of directors. He succeeded the outgoing Chairman of the board, Alhaji Ahmad Abdullahi. The financial institution disclosed this in a corporate filing on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), notifying investors of the new development.

8. The Federal High Court Abuja has issued a warrant for the arrest of Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, over his alleged involvement in the burning of the State House of Assembly. Ehie is also the immediate past factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. In a ruling by Justice Emeka Nwite, Ehie was ordered to be arrested along with five other persons for allegedly participating in some criminal activities.

9. YouTube has taken down the main channel run by the late founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet TB Joshua- Emmanuel TV, amid allegations against the late preacher. This is coming on the heels of the controversial documentary reports by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) about the allegations of torture and rape perpetrated by TB Joshua.

10. Bureau De Change, BDC, operators have announced a shutdown of operation in Abuja as a result of unavailability of dollars. Chairman of the Association, Mallam Abdulahi Dauran, announced this in the nation’s capital, on Wednesday. He attributed the development to online business transactions and cryptocurrency.
